///////////////////////// // FOXSI-4 public data // ///////////////////////// Thank you for finding the FOXSI-4 public data repository! We hope you enjoy it. FOXSI-4 was the fourth flight of Focusing Optics X-ray Solar Imager, a sounding rocket experiment to study the sun. You can find more information about FOXSI at foxsi.umn.edu. FOXSI-4 flew successfully on 17 April 2024, observing the decay of an M1.6 solar flare. These are the public data available from the FOXSI-4 development and flight, hosted at foxsi.space.umn.edu/data. These include data from the 17 April 2024 flight, data used to construct the detector response, pre-flight test data, and supporting data from other observatories for context. ///////////////////////// // Top-level structure // ///////////////////////// Here is the top-level structure of this repository: size count FOXSI -------------------------------------------- 307G 111,073 data 29G 2,874 |-- calibration 26G 1,619 | |-- IPMU 371M 590 | |-- SSL 2.8G 664 | \-- UMN 138G 21,062 |-- flight 59G 9,997 | |-- cmos1 76G 9,913 | |-- cmos2 91M 44 | |-- de 376M 5 | |-- formatter 226M 2 | |-- saas 2.4G 100 | |-- telemetry 19M 1,000 | \-- timepix 0 1 |-- README.txt 31M 44 |-- response 31M 44 | \-- response-components 283K 14 | |-- attenuation-data 30M 10 | |-- detector-response-data 287K 15 | |-- effective-area-data 49K 4 | \-- quantum-efficiency-data 878M 480 |-- supporting_observations 878M 479 | \-- aia 139G 86,653 \-- test 31G 4,720 |-- PFRR 108G 81,932 \-- WSMR The leftmost column shows the size of each folder, the center column counts the files under each folder, and the folder tree is on the right. There are five top-level folders: - "calibration": data used in the energy and efficiency calibration of the CdTe strip detectors. - "flight": raw data from the April 17 2024 flight of FOXSI-4, which observed the decay of an M1.6 flare and an active region. - "response": *instrument response elements, coming soon!* - "supporting_observations": includes AIA context images of the regions observed by FOXSI-4 in flight. - "test": raw data from critical pre-flight tests, including vibration test, sequence test, and X-ray alignment checks. //////////////////////// // Detailed structure // //////////////////////// The "calibration" folder contains CdTe strip detector calibration data, and is organized by location of test: IPMU, SSL, or UMN. The IPMU subfolder is organized by detector; the other are organized chronologically. The "flight" folder contains all the raw data files from the FOXSI-4 flight. It is organized by the detector that saved the data, and includes a "telemetry" folder of data transmitted in the flight. The "response" folder will contain components of the instrument response for each of the seven telescopes in FOXSI. **Most end users will only need to use data in this folder.** *Additional documentation to be linked here later*. The "supporting_observations" folder only includes AIA context images. The "test" folder contains two major test locations, "WSMR" (integration) and "PFRR" (launch), each of which are broken into folders for tests, and a chronological log of test data. ///////////////////////// // Tools and resources // ///////////////////////// The FOXSI response-tools (github.com/foxsi/response-tools) package exposes convenient Python interfaces to these data. Most users should visit that repository to interact with these data. The project GitHub page (github.com/foxsi) has many software resources for analyzing this data. Visit foxsi.umn.edu for project overview, including other FOXSI flights. Please contact Thanasi Pantazides (panta013@umn.edu) with issues accessing these data. ////////////////// // Usage policy // ////////////////// The FOXSI-4 Authorship Policy can be found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OHq8I7HEiW3PBBFD_Qr5ZLSKtt2JKehuszvTJxKFHyo.
